Robert Davidson

Frank Zappa Art | Auction | Juliens | Silver Gelatin Photograph - Krappa - Robert Davidson

Robert Davidson is a British photographer, best known for the iconic counter culture image of Frank Zappa sitting on a toilet in a London hotel room in 1967, fondly known as Zappa Krappa.

Born in Dundee, he left school at seventeen years old to live in Paris, where he met, and was influenced by the Time Life photographer Emil Cadoo. Two years later Davidson returned to London and began to work in fashion photography, taking the first test shots of Twiggy. At this time also, Davidson became acquainted with Tony Secunda, manager of The Moody Blues, Procol Harum and the Move. He was subsequently appointed as Secunda’s official photographer, shooting The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Arthur Brown to name but a few.

His work is held by the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Smithsonian Institute. In 2018 Robert appeared in the prestigious Sotheby's 'Made in Britain' sale, London, New Bond street.

Whitebank Fine Art published and exhibited his work in 2017 in London.
